Why PR?

When I came to college, I started as a Psychology major. Why? Only because I felt pressured to choose a major the split second the acceptance letter reached my mailbox. I thought to myself "Psychology... Sure, I could like that. Why not?" Don't get me wrong, the classes were really interesting, but I realized I couldn't see myself staying in school for 7 extra years to get my doctorate. Really, the only other option without a doctorate was to be a school counselor or social worker-- definitely not the career for me.

Then, one of my friends told me about the Mass Communication program. She said it was a fun and creative major that is always changing. It allows you work with all different types of new media and you can become a great writer in the process. Originally, I thought Mass Comm. meant "public speaking," so this description sounded way more appealing to me.

Through the beginning classes of Mass Comm, I realized that Public Relations was something I could see myself doing in the future. I enjoy working with people, being creative, planning and promoting events, and best of all, I don't hate writing!

So far, Public Relations has been exactly what I was looking for in a major. I hope I can be successful PR professional in the future and make PR a life-long career!
