PR trip to Flagler

Last week, our PR Admin. class had the wonderful opportunity to take a 3-day trip to St. Augustine together! (PR is seriously the best major ever!) Our main mission for the trip, was to go to Flagler College to show their sports marketing class all that we are contributing to GCSU athletics. The class seemed like they were interested, so I hope they will be able to utilize some of the ideas we shared with them.

We also attended a GCSU v. Flagler basketball game. Other than the nonstop Lady Gaga song stuck in our heads, we had the chance to experience Flagler's spirited fans. Our 8 person group was cheering almost as loud as the Flagler student section... and I think they got a little intimidated. We ended up winning, which made our trip just a little bit more fun. :)

Our class also attended a special inside preview of what goes on at the PGA Tour Entertainment. We met many of the staff members, and saw some of the amazing commercials and videos they have produced. We also went into all the radio and t.v. studios and took a bunch of pictures of course. And Dr. Carter had placed them on Facebook with everyone tagged in 10 minutes flat! Talk about a speedy record!

Our class was privileged to be able to meet with Flagler's PRSSA chapter. They gave us amazing ideas and a ton of inspiration to go out and discover what we want to do with our PR degree. One of the best ideas our PRSSA is borrowing from them is an on-campus PR firm. At Flagler, they have a PR company, called "The Dow Advantage" that is completely run by students. This is a true PR job experience because the students work for real non-profit clients in st. Augustine. (Great for a resume!) Our PRSSA is in the beginning stages of starting our our own firm, possibly called "Spectrum PR." I am hopefully going to be in charge of creating this organization and giving it a good reputation on our campus, so I am really excited!

Although we had serious business to accomplish, the girls somehow found an hour or 2 to scope out St. Augustine's great outlet mall! Nobody left empty-handed. I thought his trip was very beneficial and we were all sad to leave. Our class really had a chance to bond with each other and I hope we can do something like this again in the future!
