1. What was your event? Describe it, all elements, name your contacts, and describe how you planned the day to work out.
I was the only one in our PR class that didn't plan a specific event. My job was to be the liaison between our class and the "Thunder Crew," GCSU's official sports student section. If our class had any ideas, I was in charge of getting them approved by Al, the sports information director at GCSU. Next, I would share the idea with the Thunder Crew to get their feedback and to TRY (key word) to get everyone on the same page.
2. Was it a success? How do you know that? What forms of measurement did you use to assess your success?
According to the books, I was a successful liaison because I helped swap ideas between the 2 groups. BUT in the future, I really think my job should be eliminated. People will do what they want to do no matter what you tell them. At times, I felt like I was talking to a brick wall because I had to deal with the many empty promises that I was given. I always measure my success by getting feedback from my professor and peers. All of the confusion and conflicts this semester probably made me look like I was an unsuccessful liaison, but I really tried my best to make people to cooperate... It's so difficult!!
3. What was the best takeaway learning moment you got from your event?
Throughout this experience, I have really learned how to deal with people that have differing opinions. The leader of the Thunder Crew, who had amazing ideas, had the problem of implementing those plans without getting them approved. This made it extremely difficult for our class. We were instructed to advertise for each event, creating an event name, flyer, facebook page and half-time show. Each time we started to create the event, we were shocked and frustrated because some people already made a flyer with the wrong name, time, and logo. Needless to say, it was quite a challenge to get everyone on the same page.
4. What is the one thing you wish you could do over?
If I could do this job over, I would have requested the Thunder Crew to let me see and approve their flyers before handing them out. This way, I could have had a chance to edit all the mistakes that were made and smooth out some of the problems we encountered.
5. If you had to grade your event, what grade would you give it?
Like I said, I didn't do a specific event, but I helped with all of them. Each event was unique, fun, entertaining, and they drew larger crowds than ever before at GCSU. I would definitely give each event an A++. They were truly outstanding!
6. What's your one best idea to keep "Mean in Green" ALIVE?
I think the best way to make "Mean in Green" an ongoing tradition is to encourage the use of the "bobcat eye" logo and the words "Mean in Green" on ALL sport event posters, flyers, ect. We also should continue to promote wearing green to all the games to keep people spirited and excited for future games.
