While I´m in Spain, I want to try to make time every few days to write about my experiences abroad!
Right now, I am sitting in my hotel room in Barcelona, Spain and I am EXHAUSTED! Our flight left yesterday around 6:45p.m. and we were supposed to land in BCN really early. Due to the recent volcanic ash issues, our flight had to be re-routed making our original 9 hr flight a 10 hr and 40 min one. Katie and I were both standby passengers, but because she has higher priority over me, she was chilling in first class with big comfy seats eacting her mahi-mahi, while I got stuck in coach eating bread in a bag. It wasn´t really too bad because we had personal tvs and free wine/beer! This was the first time I drank on an airplane. After one drink I was feeling a little loopy and the flight attendant explained that one drink on an airplane equals the feeling of 3 drinks due to the altitude. Talk about a fun few hours! Then I tried to take a sleeping pill (since we were flying overnight--spain time), but the flight attendant convinced me that I only needed half. I listened to the ¨expert¨ and somehow didn´t sleep more than 2 hrs. Then, in the morning he said <óh, maybe the whole thing would have been okay.¨ thanks.....
When we arrived in Barcelona, we checked into our unique hotel and got a chance to see a little bit of the city. Some things I noticed:
-All the restaraunts have an english and spanish menu
-Cars WILL NOT stop if you are in the way
-Everyone drinks wine at lunch
-The elevators in the hotel are tiny, but the shower in our room is big enough to fit 5 people comfortably
-The electricity in the room wont work unless you insert your key in a little slot. (this saves energy because the lights will only ever be on when you are there! (this took us like 30 mins to figure out)
-Our view is of a courtyard where spanish children are playing and screaming all hours of the day!
As soon as we freshened up in our hotel room, we began to tour the beautiful, lively city of Barcelona. We took a tour bus around the city and I took plenty of pictures (which I will post as soon as I get a charger for my computer--bad thing to forget to bring)
Katie and I went to lunch at a cute little cafe and ate an ¨omelette¨ which was really like a cake-like thing... not really what I was expecting, but still delish! Then the 2 of us went to dinner at a quaint restaurant and we ordered Paella. This came with: clams, crab legs, crawfish, calamari, muscles, rabbit, and rice. No that wasnt a typo- we actually tried rabbit. It sounds really gross/weird, but it legit tastes like chicken! Hey, my goal is to try new things!
So like I said, I am in my hotel room and I have had NO sleep... so I must go to bed! We have to be ready by 9! Bueñas noches!!
